Had this been planned I would have thought the best man was the smartest person in the world – but hey it worked out anyway.
The group’s sitting around drinking while waiting for strippers to show up and I’m flipping through channels on the TV and come across the horserace channel that simulcasts from all the tracks (many casino hotels have this on the TV). Instantly, I turn to the guy next to me and say hey I’ll bet you two bucks the 4 horse comes in first. He says OK, I have the 7 for two bucks. The race starts and immediately both of us start screaming at the TV.
Within seconds everyone in the room is wondering what the hell’s going on while we shove each other around and scream at the jockeys to use the whip (yeah, I’m sure they heard us through the TV). We explain before the next race and it builds interest and gains another 2 players. So now we’re keeping track of each other’s picks on a napkin and don’t allow people to pick the same horse. Now 4 of us staring at the TV like Jim Carrey in the Cable Guy and when the race starts mayhem breaks out. Who would of thought winning the eight-dollar pot would have made us so intense.
The next race everyone else joins in and the whole room is screaming at the TV. We even had to start using the lid to our pizza boxes as our board to track people’s picks and the 2 dollar bet made it so no one was fighting about picking a certain horse – whoever screamed the number first got it (or pick numbers from a hat).
If you have time to kill, and there’s a simulcast channel on the TV – use it. Instead of the money wager you could even bet who gets to be whipped by the girls (biggest loser in 8 races) or who gets to eat the lollipop (biggest winner in 8 races).
